Elon Musk recently addressed the potential risks associated with artificial intelligence (AI) amid the rapidly evolving developments in the field. During his virtual appearance at the Abundance 360 Summit held in Silicon Valley, the CEO of Tesla discussed the challenges of predicting future outcomes in the face of advancing superintelligence.
Musk acknowledged a significant but small chance that AI could pose dangers to humanity, estimating it at around 10 to 20 percent. However, he argued that despite these risks, the potential benefits of AI outweigh them.
Industry experts predict that advancements in bleeding-edge technologies, from AI and quantum computing to AR/VR, will prove to be advantageous for humanity. Analysts anticipate that the current generation will witness a world unrecognizable due to technological advancements across various fields.
Musk’s concerns, expressed at the “Great AI Debate” seminar, echo his previous remarks made last November, where he emphasized the possibility of AI having negative consequences and advocated for implementing more regulations to mitigate them.

Looking ahead, the US billionaire predicts that by 2030, AI will surpass human intelligence. He emphasizes the importance of caution in dealing with the potential adverse effects of this advancement, drawing an analogy between developing super-smart AI and raising a gifted child. Musk underscores the significance of instilling truthfulness and curiosity in AI systems to ensure their safety.

According to Musk, maintaining AI safety is paramount, and he proposes a straightforward approach to achieve this: ensuring that AI always tells the truth. He warns that once AI learns to lie, controlling its behavior becomes challenging.
Musk’s remarks come as his artificial intelligence startup xAI prepares to release its latest Grok-1.5 chatbot on his social media platform X. Musk stated that “Grok 2 should exceed current AI on all metrics” and is currently in training. Grok-1.5, an enhanced version of its chatbot Grok, will soon be available to early testers and existing Grok users on X. Earlier, Musk announced that xAI would open-source Grok, days after he sued Microsoft and backed OpenAI for allegedly abandoning its original mission in favor of a for-profit model.
