Attention iPhone users! The Indian government has issued a high severity warning regarding Apple products. CERT-In also known as the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, has flagged high severity issues for Apple iOS and iPadOS devices. The warning, published on the official CERT-In website on March 15, highlights multiple vulnerabilities found in Apple iOS and iPadOS. These vulnerabilities could potentially allow attackers to take control of the system, cause it to cease functioning, execute arbitrary code, access sensitive data, and bypass security protections.

According to the CERT-In website, the flaw enables attackers to trigger denial of service conditions, execute arbitrary code, disclose sensitive information, and bypass security restrictions on the targeted system. The security flaw affects iOS and iPadOS versions prior to 16.7.6 for devices such as iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPad 5th generation, iPad Pro 9.7-inch, and iPad Pro 12.9-inch 1st generation. Additionally, versions earlier than v17.4 are impacted for devices including iPad Air 3rd generation and newer, iPad 6th generation and newer, iPad mini 5th generation and newer, iPhone XS and newer, iPad Pro 12.9-inch 2nd generation and newer, iPad Pro 10.5-inch, and iPad Pro 11-inch 1st generation and newer.
The issues identified by CERT-In stem from “improper validation” in components such as Bluetooth, libxpc, MediaRemote, Photos, Safari, and WebKit of Apple’s iOS and iPadOS. Privacy concerns are associated with ExtensionKit, Messages, Share Sheet, Synapse, and Notes sections. Additionally, ImagelO may encounter storage overflow issues, while memory errors could occur in kernel & RTKit parts. Exploiting these vulnerabilities could result in system failures, execution of unauthorized code, access to private information, and bypassing security measures.
