The National Investigation Agency (NIA) successfully apprehended two suspects, Mussavir Hussain Shazib and Abdul Matheen Ahmed Taahaa believed to be connected to the Bengaluru blast at Rameshwaram Cafe on March 1. The arrest, conducted in the vicinity of Kolkata, sparked a heated exchange on social media between the West Bengal Police and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Malviya.
Malviya, in a post, implicated West Bengal under Mamata Banerjee’s governance as a “safe haven for terrorists.” However, the West Bengal Police promptly refuted these claims, asserting that the suspects were arrested from Purba Medinipur in a joint operation with central intelligence agencies.

Amidst the online spat, Mamata Banerjee, from an election rally in Bengal, defended her administration’s swift response, emphasizing the timely arrest of the accused due to the proactive measures of the state police.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police, Shesh Paul Vaid, commended the NIA for their breakthrough, expressing disdain for individuals who attempted to downplay the severity of the incident, calling for accountability for such actions.
The exchange highlights the political tension surrounding issues of law and order, with each side attempting to assert its narrative regarding the effectiveness of governance and security measures. The incident underscores the complexities of maintaining public safety and combating terrorism, often exacerbated by political rhetoric and inter-agency dynamics.
