The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), India’s premier drug regulatory authority is at the forefront of launching this innovative portal named as a ‘National Single Window System (NSWS)’.
The National Single Window System portal (NSWS) is specifically designed to simplify the application procedures for obtaining certificates of registration and licenses necessary for manufacturing or importing medical devices. These devices are utilized for a variety of purposes, including clinical investigations, tests, evaluations, demonstrations or training.

The scope of the National Single Window System portal (NSWS) is extensive encompassing all necessary approvals, licenses, registrations, and clearances relevant to the medical device industry. This development was facilitated by ‘Invest India’ through TCS and is designed to operate independently from existing portals such as the SUGAM portal and cdscomdonline portal. Notably, these existing portals are scheduled to be phased out by January 15.

The NSWS ((National Single Window System) website, which became operational from January 1, initially focuses on three key activities under the Medical Devices Rules at 2017. Additionally, the portal is used for obtaining licenses to import medical devices for similar applications.

The portal is expected to broaden its functionalities. A senior official from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, preferring anonymity, indicated that in the upcoming months, all activities related to medical devices will be transitioned to this new website. The primary objective of this transition is to streamline the importation of medical devices into India while also facilitating a more efficient and business-friendly environment for medical technology companies operating in the country.
