Prime Minister Narendra Modi dialed Rekha Patra, BJP’s Basirhat candidate and one of the protesters from Sandeshkhali, discussing campaign preparations. During the conversation, he referred to her as ‘Shakti Swaroopa‘. Patra’s candidacy is considered a significant move by the BJP in support of the women of Sandeshkhali and West Bengal.
The BJP released its candidate list for 19 seats in West Bengal on Sunday for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, selecting Rekha Patra to contest from the crucial Basirhat constituency, which includes the Sandeshkhali area. Patra a housewife allegedly faced torture and harassment from now-suspended TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh and his associates.

Patra expressed gratitude to Narendra Modi and the BJP for granting her the opportunity. She pledged to continue fighting for the women of Sandeshkhali, vowing to be their voice. Her nomination prompted early Holi celebrations in Sandeshkhali on Sunday with locals expressing joy over having a representative who spoke out against injustice.
